MONTHLY PARENT SUPPORT GROUP
Held once a month. CVASA schedules speakers on all topics relating to autism. While parents attend the meetings, we offer free childcare and fun activities supervised by Special Education Teachers from the Valleys different school districts and child care providers. Spanish language interpreters available on a case by case basis. Contact the CVASA office for more details (760) 772-1000.
Come and meet other Spanish speaking families and talk about topics related to Autism. This group is facilitated in Spanish. Held every third Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at McDonald’s 42550 Jackson St. in Indio.
CVASA Resource Center is a free lending library providing a comprehensive variety of information on autism and related disabilities. The CVASA Resource Center is available to families, health care professionals as well as the education community, as the primary source of information relating to autism in the desert. Our inventory includes well over 800 books, videos, and articles. Individuals are able to check-out up to three items at no-charge for two weeks at a time.

Our resource center features a state-of-the-art computer terminal with PECS software and Boardmaker Studio. Parents are invited to use this valuable resource to create useful tools to assist their children in school and at home.
A comprehensive guide put together by CVASA that includes information on local, state and national resources, as well as medical and therapeutic information. Offered at no cost, these packets have been an extremely popular and valuable resource for families with newly diagnosed children, teachers, and other professionals. The CVASA packets are available in English and Spanish and distributed throughout the Coachella Valley. An integral part of our Information Packets is our CVASA Resource Guide, a comprehensive listing of resources available in the Coachella Valley and Riverside for families and professionals.
CVASA hosts regular family fun events throughout the year where our members and their children can come together in a safe environment of camaraderie and acceptance. This is particularly important to parents of many children with autism that are not generally able to go to a public park, pool, etc. because of their children’s atypical behavior. These events are open to our members as well as any other family or professional dealing with autism. These activities are located throughout the desert to ensure that families from all areas of the Coachella Valley can attend. Some of these events include picnics, bowling, baseball games and more.
SOCIAL RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS
The Social Recreation Programs provide opportunities for children with autism to participate in a variety of creative activities in social settings to promote and maintain their growth and development.
YOUNG ADULT GROUP
The mission of the Young Adult Group (Y.A.G) is to promote and facilitate social events and community involvement activities for young adults with Autism to develop friendships and independent skills. Started in April 2010, the Y.A.G. has enjoyed many activities such as hiking, bowling, movies, miniature golf and much more. This group is open to any individual with Autism or Asperger’s that is 21 years and older. Participation in the Y.A.G activities is free.
The mission of the Teen Group is to promote and facilitate social events and community involvement activities for teens with Autism. This group is open to teens with Autism that are 13 to 20 years old. Participation in the Teen Group activities is free for any adolescent affected with autism plus one parent/guardian. Annual trip highlights include, train ride to San Clemente Pier, Living Desert Wild Lights, Riley’s Apple Farm, and more!
TEEN/YOUNG ADULT ART PROGRAM *NEW PROGRAM*
In partnership with the Old Town Artisan Studio, we offer a a new Teen/Young Adult art program offered to individuals with autism between the ages of 13 – 20. CVASA Art students will create art projects using various art experiences including glass, clay, painting, and more! Classes are offered every 3rd Saturday of each month from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at the Old Town Artisan Studio, 78134 Calle Tampico, Suite 160, La Quinta, CA 92253. *Limited space available*
The mission of the Kids Group is to promote and facilitate social events and community involvement activities for children with Autism and their siblings. This group is open to children Autism and their siblings that are 5 to 12 years old. Participation in the Kids Group activities is free for children with autism and their siblings. Parent/guardian supervision is required.
The LEGO club focuses on helping children with Autism work together in small groups to build Lego models while encouraging play and social interaction. This club is open to children with Autism and their siblings ages 7-14. Prerequisites for this group include being able to sit for 15-20 minutes and follow directions.
GROUP MUSIC THERAPY
Music Therapy sessions are open for kids with Autism and their siblings between the ages of 3-10. Music Therapy works with kids to increase their social interaction skills, increase their fine and gross motor control along with assisting with some basic educational goals all while singing, dancing and playing instruments. CVASA’s Group Music Therapy is held at the Palm Desert Library and is facilitated by a licensed Music Therapist.
HANDS ON ART PROGRAM (HOAP) *NEW PROGRAM*
In partnership with Old Town Artisan Studio, we now offer a “Parent and Me” art class offered to children with Autism ages 5 – 12. Children and parents work together to make art projects including clay, painting, drawing, and more.
